SA Cricket Legends to showcase young talent at SA’s biggest amateur cricket event

Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes

SA cricket legends Allan Donald, Brett Schultz, and Meyrick Pringle announced their commitment to rising talent development last night at the launch of the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes, to be held next month, 22nd to 24th February, at the Green Point Cricket Club.

The Festival, now in its 4th year, brings South African cricket fans together incorporating players across all skill levels by allowing entrants to participate in different leagues such as a social league, development league and the much-anticipated VIP corporate cup, as well as two new women’s leagues, and the introduction of Fives Futbol.

Male and female teams, adults and children, corporates and professional, amateurs and charities are expected to draw crowds of between 7000 and 10 000 engaging with the cricket legends, competing, supporting and enjoying quality local food and top entertainment.

The event is supporting the initiative #HitPovertyForASix which runs various cricket coaching clinics in the run up to the event, providing kids with coaching tips from Donald, Schultz, and Pringle. The clinics act as a platform for talent to be identified and pursue a professional career in cricket while meeting and playing with some of the past greats of the game. 30 young development players, and some rising stars who have been nurtured since the 2018 event, will attend and compete.

In the last few years the festival has grown from strength to strength - from around 40 teams in 2016 to just over 100 this year, including the SA Cricket and Laureus Legends teams, attracting players from Dubai, Qatar, Durban and Johannesburg.

Sasfin Cape Town’s Sean Young, explains “There’s no secret that we have cricket fanatics in South Africa, both young and old, of all ages and genders. It’s a sport which brings us together. A family weekend, the event will include gourmet food trucks, hospitality tents, local gin, champagne, wine and beer specialists, and some of the best of SA’s bands and music talent such as The Kiffness and reggae legends, The Rivertones. We are proud to be associated with such an event and the impact we can have on the community by partnering with the Hit Poverty for a Six initiative.”
